Top 10 Windows Run Command

You can use 'run' command to easily and quickly run various tools in windows. However, knowing corresponding run command is a most. Here, I list top 10 commands every windows users needs to know to become more productive.



1. eventvwr.msc

Windows Event Viewer stores all the monitoring and troubleshooting messages. Windows generates events for every action you do. Example: event id 4624 will be generated whenever you logon to the system. Similarly there are various events that you need to monitor as a system administrator or as a security analyst. You can use this command to quickly access the Event Viewer application.

2. services.msc
Windows Services app is where you can start, stop and configure other settings for each services. Enter this command to open the application.

3. mstsc
In the course of work there are times where you need to remotely connect to the machine and work there. mstsc opens the Remote Desktop Connection app that allows you to connect to another Windows computers over the local network or through the Internet.

4. compmgmt.msc
The Computer Management app lets you access almost all the advanced Windows modules like Event Viewer, Shared Folder, System Tools, etc.

5. mmc
Microsoft Management Console is aimed at system administrators and power users that provides all tools required for configuring and monitoring a Windows system.

6. resmon
This allows you to check health of your resources. Open Resource Monitor application to check how your system resources are being utilized.

7. gpedit.msc
Group Policy Editor allows you to set and edit different Windows policies of a local or remote computer. It might be a headache for you to open this editor if you aren't used to using windows. Group Policy Editor is an advanced tool buried deep inside Windows. This Run command is the easiest way to access it.

8. lusrmgr.msc
The Local Users and Groups Manager is where you can edit several properties of all the users and groups.

9. perfmon.msc
Monitor the performance of your Windows computer and effects of the programs you run using this command

10. msinfo32
I won't say this is great and always useful but still you might want to quickly get system information. Run this command to display all system details.
