Windows Server: MCSA Use Case - 1

You were asked to install several Windows Server 2012 R2 servers into the Active Directory domain named mywinserver.com. You installed servers WinServ1, WinServ2, and WinServ3 with the Windows Server 2012 R2 (Server with a GUI) installation option. After two weeks, management has decided that WinServ3 will be a Server Core server in a branch office that will function as a file server. You run the following on WinServ3 before you ship the server to the branch office: Uninstall-WindowsFeature Server-Gui-Shell -remove You ship WinServ3 and a DVD of the WIM image to the branch office. After WinServ3 is up and running in the branch office, the personnel in the branch office request that WinServ3 be a server with a GUI interface and not a Server Core installation of Windows Server 2012 R2. You need to instruct the junior administrator in the branch office to convert WinServ3 to a server with a GUI interface. What should you instruct the junior administrator to run?

Correct answer is 1
The above cmdlet will install the Server GUI Management tools and the Server GUI shell from the path of the WIM image. When you previously ran the Uninstall-WindowsFeature cmdlet, you used the -remove switch. The -remove switch will completely remove a role or a feature by completely removing the binary files from the disk, thus freeing up disk space. When reinstalling the feature or role you will need to specify the -Source option of the Install-WindowsFeature Server Manager cmdlet. Using the -Source option allows you to specify the full path to the WIM image and specify the index number. In this scenario, the WIM image was shipped on DVD with WinServ3 to the branch office. Instead of using a DVD, you could specify a network source for servers that are members of the domain using a group policy. You can set the Specify settings for optional component installation and component repair option under Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System >. You should set a network path that all computers have access to.
